About Project Cobb (Back)

Project Cobb involves the usage of HOME Program grant funds and private/public sector financing to acquire and rehabilitate selected homes within defined geographical areas outside the city limits of Marietta. Community Housing Initiatives (CHI) will work in conjunction with the Cobb County Board of Commissioners to identify specific properties which are affordable, vacant, in substandard conditions, and/or either owned by absentee landlords will be identified and placed on a list of possible acquisitions.

As the Community Housing Development Organization for Cobb County (CHDO), CHI will acquire, rehabilitate and or demolish & reconstruct properties. CHI will also provide a minimum of eight (8) hours of HUD approved housing counseling, and administer down payment assistance for Project Cobb purchasers. All Project Cobb properties will be developed to CHI’s GreenBuilding Standards which include sustainable and environmentally friendly building materials. CHI will also utilize GreenBuilding techniques to enhance indoor air quality and to reduce monthly utility bills.

Funding is provided by Cobb County through Federal Funds provided by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Georgia Urban County Consortium.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a U.S. citizen or a qualified alien
  • Family household income below 80 percent of the Area Median Income (see chart)
  • Qualify for a first mortgage
  • Attend eight (8) hours of HUD approved housing counseling
  • Home must be primary residence
